It was a much-anticipated celebration of literature in the native tongue of our local community. Ever since the live Radio IMWS show on which popular Gujarati poets Sufi Manubari and Adam Tankarvi entertained listeners across the airwaves, the Mushaira evening had been a talking point for the local community.

The evening itself drew a sizable audience and poets from Lancashire stood at the same podium as their counter-parts from our local towns in the Al-Hikmah Centre’s wedding hall, in what soon became a ‘married life’ themed show.

Compere on the day Adam Tankarvi wisely utilised the links to merge on coming performers.

Mahek Tankarvi, from Bolton, shared a little of his work in the Radio IMWS studios prior to the evening officially starting. He then shared Gazals during the evening much to the delight of the audience.

And when Sufi Manubari came on those who had only learnt of this talented individual recently sat up straight to yet again fall from smiles to laughter knowing full well between the lines there was a lesson to be learnt.

Each of the performers shone under their own creative spotlight and it was a pleasure to have witnessed their art at close hand.

The Mushaira programme was organised by the IMWS and the organisation’s chair said he hopes the Mushaira evening will become an annual event and remain a literature marvel in the community’s calendar.

IMWS would like to thank all the poets who performed and the public who attended the event.
