Affiliated Masjids – IMWS – Indian Muslim Welfare Society

IMWS was formed in 1957 in the early days of the Muslim community settlements in the Batley and Dewsbury areas. From those early days and up to 1984 IMWS was the main organisation that catered for the Islamic needs of our community.

IMWS acquired and managed the main first Jumma Masjid on Bradford Road as well as providing Madressa classes for children’s Islamic education. However, as the population of the Muslim community grew, it was necessary to provide additional Masjids and Madressas in different localities and geographical areas.

This eventually led to the community having seven Masjids affiliated to IMWS but being independent and responsible for managing their own Masjids and Madressas through their own local Management Committees and volunteers.

Our seven Affiliated Areas are integral to IMWS and each Area is also represented on the IMWS Executive Committee and play an active role in helping to manage IMWS work and activities.
