The carrom tournament as usual was played in a very competitive manner as each player played with great zeal and tenacity to win the coveted title of being crowned Milen Care’s Carrom board champion.

Last year’s finalist Shabbir bhai Kazi had to be contented with third place where he beat Ismail bhai Waza in the semi final runner up spot.

Saeed bhai Dadhiwala who is no stranger to playing in the final was up against Yaccob bhai Patel,a veteran of the game. Despite Yaccob bhai previously never reaching the final he has on countless occasions reached the semi finals.

Yacoob bhai a well known sportsman who has won many trophies during his cricketing career said,” I have many trophies but it’s my dream to win the Carrom tournament at Milen one day.”

Reaching the final was no easy task for either of the finalists. Many of their previous matches were highly contested with their opponents fighting each game with the determination of an Olympic Gold winner. So it was no surprise to see many of the matches being played on the knife edge.

The final consisted of 5 matches with the first one to win 3 games taking home the champion’s trophy.

After some skilful playing and excellent shots by both the players the final result was 3 games to one in favour of Yacoob Bhai. Despite the score the matches were close. Both players played extremely well and with great dexterity.

On winning the championship Mr Patel was lost for words as he became very emotional with tears almost rolling down his cheek. He later treated everyone to Mithai (Indian sweets) and Khamman (savoury snack). Mr Patel went on to say should he win the title next year he would treat everyone to Chana Chatpati (savoury snack). It’s no surprise the service users at Milen Care are already rooting for him.
