The Walker Street complex in Dewsbury is run by KNH and has become, as the founder of Kumon Y’all Moulana Farook Yunus puts it ‘family’. “ We started working with Walker St a while back and we are as far I am concerned family.

“The values family members have towards each other is to help, play and have fun together. That is all we are doing.” He told Paigaam.

Plans for the clean up stemmed from a visit by Moulana Farook last month to invite residents to an event. Noticing the left over autumnal leaves and litter on the grounds he offered to bring his troop of volunteers and clean up the grounds.

The project is one of many initiatives the voluntary group has on going to build better relations and to reach out to the wider community. On this occasion they drew in pupils from the local Darul Uloom to partner them in the project.

Moulana Farook gave his reasons why saying, “Now we are growing the family by introducing new organisations into our family to create a world of peace and harmony, as is our mission.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to be amongst a united community, helping and supporting one another.

“The smiling faces on the elderly people is something I cherish and made it all the more worthwhile.”

Earlier in the month Kumon Y’all were visited by Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude who heaped praise on the groups work. Commenting on the £4000 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support last year Mr Maude said “Kumon Y’all is a brilliant group promoting understanding through sport and positive action. I am impressed by their enthusiasm and dedication and can see this is another shining example of a community coming together and feeling empowered to address the issues they care about.”
