    IMWS have a team of volunteers and runs a food bank from Al Hikmah Centre, Batley. If you know anyone who is struggling for food or require other assistance, we may be able to help. We have enough supply for the elderly and vulnerable in our community. Get in touch if you require more information.

    Good News! IMWS is now providing the following preparation courses: Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) (B1/ GESE Grade 5 ) This short one day course is for learners whose English is at Entry 3 or above, and who only need preparation for taking the B1/Trinity Grade 5 GESE test. You will receive 1 to 1 support from experienced bilingual ESOL tutor, learn exam techniques, mock exam and have support to book exam online on Trinity website. 9am-3pm.   • Girls team building success at Al-Hikmah
    Last month 19 girls gave up their weekend to complete the ILM level 2 Award in Effective Team Building Skills. The two-day course was held at the Al-Hikmah Centre, especially targeted at girls aged 14-19 from the local community. Proficient partnership working between IMWS, IMWS Women’s Committee, Kumon Y’All, Shared Outcomes and CVQO ensured that the course was recruited, organised and delivered effectively. The participants were split into two teams throughout the weekend and worked together, making use of the great indoor and outdoor space at the Centre.   • Half-Term Fun at The Al-Hikmah Centre
    Children aged 8 to 12 enjoyed games and activities during youth sessions held at the Al-Hikmah Centre last month. In total four sessions took place over two days during the half-term holidays with over 50 children attending. Funded by Kirklees Council, the sessions were led by youth workers and activities included table tennis, pool tables, table top football, arts & crafts, Play Station 4, X Box and board games in the Al-Hikmah Hall.   • Fantastic Fifa Final crowns a glorious tournament
    THE STAGE was set with two PS4 games consoles projecting the Camp Nou on elevated screen backdrops in wait of competitors challenging to become the IMWS Fifa 17 Champion. The competition, organised by the IMWS Youth sub-committee with prizes sponsored by Frankies Burgers, saw each of the 19 competitors play three group games.   • Involving BME communities dementia Event
    A group of around 30 professionals, mostly from the BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) communities, attended an ‘Involving Communities Dementia’ event hosted by Making Space and in partnership with IMWS. Held at the Al-Hikmah Centre last month, the programme made inroads into what is often a taboo subject within BME communities. Making Space holds the Dementia Information Service contract across Kirklees and attendees included staff from local community organisations, Housing Associations, Admiral Nurses, Milen Care, Carers Count and many more.     Qaza namaz – simple calculator and how to guide for women The ladies Umri (life time) Qaza namaz workshop was recently delivered at the Centre. Due to complex female issues, finding a total of namaz missed over a long time was difficult. To address this, we would like to share some practical resources to help you establish a ‘starting point’ – how many qaza namaz do I have?   • Bringing local schools and a local children’s charity together
    IMWS hosted a meeting for local head teachers to become more familiar with a newly formed charity offering grants of up to £500 to local children. ‘Let June Make A Difference’ was launched in August to help impoverished children take part in events or activities that they would otherwise be unable to afford. The charity has been set up by a local family and aims to help 7 to 17 year-olds from north Kirklees.   • Helping families living in deprived areas to have a better quality of life
    IMWS have began collecting donations to fund projects in south Gujarat which will help not only to rebuild un-stable houses in deprived areas, but also help families stuck in long-term poverty to rise above their predicament and able to earn their own income. The south Gujarat region is an area well known by the local community, many of whom originate or share a heritage with the region. The general poverty amongst Muslims in the more remote regions and slums is a fact witnessed by visitors from the UK every year.   • ESOL class takes learning to Bagshaw Museum
    Learners attending the ESOL class at the Al-Hikmah Centre took a trip to a local museum as part of their tuition. The class have been looking at ‘our community’ and in particular important buildings such as town halls, libraries and museums. Bagshaw Museum, Batley, became the venue and learners discussed the importance of having these buildings, including future government funding cuts which might affect them. Some of the learners had never been to the museum before and wanted to explore the different cultural and local history exhibitions on display. They also enjoyed the surrounding gardens.       The Unity Men and Kids Eid fun day came back bigger and stronger in its second year with more crowd-pleasing attractions to continue offering a fun day with a twist. This years fun day, attended by over 1500 visitors, saw all the popular activities from 2013 lined up again including the laser Quest, Rodeo Bull, Giant Slide and of course the bouncy castle, but the new inclusions took the event much further than before.   • Budding young cricketer’s reach record gold
    A record ten children reached the gold standard during the IMWS 2014 ECB Cricket for Kids course held at the Al-Hikmah Centre. The course, which was in partnership with Kirklees Council, was open to children aged between 8 to 12 years and began in January this year. The nine week course, now in its seventh year, concluded in March and was attended by 55 participants.     It was promoted as an evening of inspiration and by the grace of the Almighty delivered performances that made hearts shake with admiration and souls fill with enlightenment. The annual IMWS Qiraat and Naat Jalsa brought together national and local performers, with audience members travelling from as far a field as Keighley. Master of ceremonies for the evening, Moulana Yusuf Sufi, began the programme with a brief outline of the events beginnings dating back to 1998, before the jalsa opened with a Quranic recitation from young hafiz Mehfooz Kola, a student at Madressa Talimuddin.     Madressah Talimuddin ‘A’ (Warwick Road) became the new IMWS affiliated Madressas under 11’s 6-a-side champions beating Madressah Islamiah ‘A’ (Mount) in an enthralling final played before a large crowd. The annual tournament held at the Al-Hikmah Centre in December, saw eight teams from local Madressas compete in a well mannered tournament which included a full Zuhr salaah break.
